Class Action Filed Against Aflac After Data Breach

We recently filed a nationwide class action lawsuit against Aflac, the largest supplemental insurance provider in the U.S., following a cyberattack that may have exposed sensitive customer information. The lawsuit, filed by Dee Miles, Larry Golston, and Leon Hampton, claims that Aflac failed to properly protect its policyholders’ private data.

The Claims

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Columbus, Georgia, home to Aflac’s headquarters and the site of the reported breach, and accuses Aflac of negligence, breach of contract, invasion of privacy, and unjust enrichment. The complaint aims to secure recovery for all Aflac policyholders who have been affected by the company failing to protect their private information. The goal is to handle this as swiftly as possible so that those impacted can get the justice they deserve.

Breach Background

Hackers reportedly broke into Aflac’s internal systems. While the full details are still coming out, early investigations suggest that a lot of personal data may have been accessed. Aflac hasn’t confirmed exactly what was stolen, but cyberattacks like this often involve names, contact info, policy numbers, claims history, and sometimes even Social Security numbers or bank details.

Aflac has acknowledged the incident and says it is taking steps to secure its systems. In the meantime, policyholders are urged to stay alert. It’s important to watch for official updates from Aflac, check your insurance and bank accounts for unusual activity, and change any passwords that may be at risk. If you notice anything suspicious, contact Aflac or your financial institution right away.

No Stranger to Big Cases

We have a strong track record when it comes to data breach lawsuits. Larry Golston helped lead the charge in a massive case against AT&T, where the personal data of 73 million customers was exposed. Dee Miles has also taken on giants like Home Depot and Target—and won.

Our team knows the ins and outs of data privacy law and is committed to holding companies accountable when they fail to protect your information.

If you’re an Aflac customer and believe your information may have been compromised, we encourage you to reach out.
