About Rhon Jones

Rhon has been involved in cases for Beasley Allen where the settlements or verdicts have totaled over $1.1 billion dollars. After serving as law clerk for U.S. District Judge Robert Varner, Rhon began practice in Birmingham with the firm of Starnes & Atchison. Rhon joined Beasley Allen in 1994 and now manages the Toxic Torts/Environmental section of the firm. He is currently involved in toxic exposure cases in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, New Jersey and Tennessee. He has handled exposure claims in Georgia, Colorado, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Ohio and Minnesota.

Rhon is one of  15 attorneys chosen for the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee (PSC) in the multi-district litigation (MDL) related to the BP Oil Spill filed in New Orleans. On April 20, 2010, a massive offshore oil rig known as the Deepwater Horizon exploded and caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico, about 50 miles from Louisiana's coastal wetlands, killing 11 workers and injuring 17 others. Firefighters and the U.S. Coast Guard fought for 2 days to contain the fire, but the rig sank on April 22. Since its sinking, the spill has caused the largest oil leak in U.S. history, creating an environmental and economic disaster affecting the entire Gulf Coast region.

Beasley Allen currently represents approximately 1,000 businesses and individuals harmed by the disaster. Clients of Beasley Allen include the State of Alabama, counties and cities in Alaama and the Florida panhandle, commercial fishermen, restaurants, real estate management companies, commercial charter fishing guides, commercial fishing deckhands, SCUBA diving businesses, property owners whose investments have lost value as a result of the oil spill, and personal injury victims.

In addition to the work on the BP cases, Rhon is currently seeking co-class counsel designation in Tennessee over the TVA coal ash dike failure, and has recently been certified class counsel in New Jersey over contaminated drinking water, as well as in Kansas against several major oil companies over the pricing and energy content of gasoline.

Cases of note:

  • Settlement of the largest toxic tort claims in U.S. history in Anniston, Alabama regarding PCB contamination by Solutia, Monsanto and Pharmacia. The federal court settlement exceeded $700 million.
  • Certification of class action by New Jersey federal court relating to PFOA drinking water contamination of an estimated 5,000 water customers.
