About Rhon
Rhon Jones began his career at Beasley Allen in 1994. Today, he heads the firm’s Toxic Torts Section and is recognized as one of the nation’s leading environmental attorneys for plaintiffs. While his practice focuses on many different types of individual harmful exposure and environmental contamination cases, Rhon also handles complex mass tort cases. Over the course of his 35 years in practice, he has successfully fought for and won multi-billion and multi-million dollar settlements and verdicts for his clients.
Rhon is dedicated to helping those who have been wronged. He knows that life is tough for hardworking people and being taken advantage of or injured can be devastating. His commitment to justice has earned him top honors, including an AV Rating from Martindale Hubbell and recognition as one of the Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers and one of the Lawdragon Green 500 Leaders in Environmental Law. He’s also consistently named to Alabama’s Midsouth Super Lawyers, was honored as the 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” for Environmental Litigation in Montgomery, and is a two-time recipient of Beasley Allen’s Litigator of the Year Award. Rhon has also been included in numerous editions of The Best Lawyers in America® for Environmental, Personal Injury and Product Liability Litigation.
A true titan in environmental law, Rhon has secured over $30 billion in total recoveries for his clients. He played a key role in the BP Oil Spill litigation, helping recover more than $10 billion for individuals and businesses and an additional $18.5 billion for federal, state, and local governments. His work has also brought justice to communities harmed by environmental disasters, including a $27.8 million settlement for a coal ash spill in Tennessee and a landmark $700 million settlement for PCB contamination in Alabama—the largest of its kind at the time. Rhon has led successful class actions involving groundwater and drinking water contamination in Alabama, Oklahoma, and New Jersey, securing more than $20 million in verdicts and settlements. He currently represents more than 50 water systems in ongoing PFAS contamination lawsuits, with settlements already reaching hundreds of millions of dollars. His practice also includes representing thousands of clients harmed by Roundup and Paraquat exposure, as well as veterans and families affected by toxic water at Camp Lejeune.
When the opioid crisis devastated Alabama and Georgia, Rhon represented both states and helped guide their legal strategies based on the unique needs of each. In Georgia, he advised the state to participate in the nationwide opioid settlements, resulting in more than $1 billion recovered to support citizens and communities. Alabama was impacted differently, and Rhon advised the state not to participate in all nationwide settlements. Instead, Alabama pursued state court actions against multiple defendants—a strategy that ultimately resulted in an even greater recovery for Alabama citizens. To date, Rhon’s work in opioid litigation has helped recover nearly $1.7 billion for Alabama and Georgia.
He’s actively involved in both state and national legal organizations. Rhon previously served as president of the Montgomery County Bar Association and has been recognized by the Alabama State Bar for his pro bono work. On a national level, he’s involved with the American Association for Justice, where he takes on leadership roles in environmental and pharmaceutical cases. He also serves on the Executive Committee for the National Trial Lawyers of America. In addition, Rhon has taught law as an adjunct professor at two Alabama law schools.
The Troy, Alabama, native feels blessed to have a wonderful wife and children. He enjoys spending time with his oldest son, who is now a lawyer at Beasley Allen. Rhon has served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Montgomery, taught Sunday school for 20 years, formerly facilitated a men’s Bible study, and has participated in multiple mission trips to India. Rhon is passionate about the arts and helping those in need. He has served on the boards of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and the Montgomery Area Business Committee for the Arts. Additionally, he supports the Family Sunshine Center, which aims to prevent domestic abuse.
Education
Rhon earned his B.A. from Auburn University and his J.D. from the University of Alabama. He started his career as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Robert Varner, then moved on to trial practice in Birmingham before joining Beasley Allen.
