Toxic Exposure Lawyer Matthew Griffith

About Matthew

Matthew “Matt” Griffith joined Beasley Allen’s Mobile office in 2021. He currently focuses on cases involving the environmental contamination of water systems.

Growing up, Matt’s parents instilled in him the value of hard work, treating people fairly, and helping those in need. As a lawyer, he gets to apply these principles every day. One of his most memorable cases was representing the State of Alabama in the opioid litigation, which he considers an honor of a lifetime. Seeing the funds from that litigation being used to help those affected by the Opioid Crisis has been extremely rewarding for him. Additionally, Matt has handled numerous lawsuits involving environmental and toxic exposure issues, including cases focused on solid waste landfills, reclaimed dump pits, and cases involving the Clean Water Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Before joining Beasley Allen, he was involved in high-stakes commercial litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants across the Gulf Coast and eastern seaboard.

He is actively involved in several professional and community organizations, including the Alabama State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Mobile Bar Association. Matt also contributes to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Mobile Chapter.

Matt lives in Mobile, Alabama, with his wife Lauren, and their three children. In his free time, he loves playing golf. Not only does he enjoy being outdoors, but every round of golf reminds him of his granddad, Pappy, a WWII veteran who stormed the beaches of Normandy. After the war, Pappy raised Matt’s mother as a single dad following the passing of his wife. Pappy taught Matt how to play golf and, more importantly, how to live a good, clean, Christian life. Matt also enjoys spending time in the woods and at the beach with his family.

Education

Matt graduated magna cum laude from Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. During his time there, he earned the prestigious Lewis F. Powell, Jr. Award for Advocacy Excellence from the American College of Trial Lawyers. He also stood out as a national semi-finalist in the 2008 National Trial Competition and was recognized for delivering the Best Summation at the 2007 National Mock Trial Competition.

His academic achievements include receiving the Dean’s Scholarship from 2006 to 2008 and being recognized for having the best paper in several courses. He also contributed to the Jones Law Review as a junior editor and articles editor. Before law school, Matt completed his undergraduate studies at Auburn University, where he earned a B.A. in political science.
