About Leon

Leon Hampton, Jr., joined Beasley Allen in 2017. He focuses on whistleblower, workers compensation, hostile workplace, bad faith insurance, and employment discrimination cases.

Leon’s journey into law was inspired by several pivotal events, with one of the most influential being reading the book Arcs of Justice by Kevin Boyle. This book illuminated the profound impact that dedicated individuals can have in the pursuit of justice. Leon’s commitment to his profession and community has earned him numerous accolades, including the Alabama State Bar Award of Merit (2022), Alabama Lawyer’s Association Board Member of the Year (2017), recognition in Lawdragon 500 X – The Next Generation (2023 & 2024), and a spot among the Mid-South Super Lawyers “Rising Stars.”

His legal passion is deeply rooted in his respect for the civil rights movement, inspired by those who fought against injustices despite overwhelming odds. Since joining the firm in August 2017, he has helped secure significant settlements and jury verdicts, including serving as lead counsel in a qui tam case that led to a $417 million judgment and co-counsel in a qui tam trial that led to a $14 million verdict in Barry Taul v. Abanks Mortuary et al. Leon has also achieved $4 million and $1.9 million jury verdicts in retaliatory discharge cases and numerous confidential settlements, where he helped hold corporations accountable for unlawful terminations.

Leon is deeply involved in both professional and community organizations. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar, where he serves on the Board of Bar Commissioners and the Ex Officio Executive Council. He has also contributed to the Committee on Disciplinary Rules and Enforcement from 2019 to 2020 and participated in the Leadership Forum (Class 15). Additionally, Leon is affiliated with the Montgomery County Bar Association, Hugh Maddox’s Inn of Court, and the Alabama Lawyer’s Association, where he has held the position of Past President. He is an Executive Board Member of the Capital City Bar Association and serves on the Cumberland School of Law Advisory Board. Beyond his professional commitments, Leon is actively engaged in community service. He served as chairman of the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast Committee for the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Montgomery Chapter in both 2019. He has also served as a board member for several organizations, including Legal Services Alabama, the Salvation Army, Mercy House, and Mentors of Montgomery.

Outside of his legal career, Leon is a devoted husband to Dr. Tonquita K. Hampton and a father to their two children.  Additionally, Leon serves as the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Greater Washington Park. He enjoys spending time with his family, often engaging in ministry activities around the church and in West Montgomery. His dedication to justice and advocacy extends beyond his legal work, as he strives to make a positive impact in his community through his pastoral role and family activities.

Education

Leon earned his Juris Doctorate from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law and is also a proud graduate of Alabama A&M University. During his time in law school, he gained valuable experience by clerking for the Attorney General’s office and working in the personal injury/product liability section at Beasley Allen.

Leon’s dedication and skill were recognized early on. He won the Judge James O. Haley Federal Trial Competition, was named the best oral advocate, and excelled in the first-year moot court competition.
