David Dearing, Talcum Powder Lawyer

About David

David Dearing started his journey at Beasley Allen Law Firm in 2012. With over 30 years of experience, he currently focuses on talcum powder cases linked to ovarian cancer, hair relaxer cases linked to uterine cancer, and infant formula cases causing necrotizing enterocolitis in premature newborns.

His interest in the legal profession was sparked at an early age by his father, who was a lawyer and later a judge. Inspired by his father’s happiness and drive, David pursued a career in law. Today, he is an AV Preeminent Rated attorney, recognized for his exceptional legal ability and ethical standards. In 2016, he received Beasley Allen’s Mass Torts Lawyer of the Year Award. He has also been named one of Florida Trend Magazine’s Florida Legal Elite and earned the title of Jacksonville “Top Lawyer” by 904 Magazine.

David has always been passionate about helping people, offering a glimmer of hope and light in dark situations. He believes that empathy and compassion are incredibly powerful forces. One of his most memorable cases was against Johnson & Johnson, where he represented Jacqueline Fox, who developed ovarian cancer from using Johnson’s Baby Powder. Tragically, Ms. Fox passed away before the trial. David played her recorded deposition to the jury, moving everyone to tears. Her case was the first of several significant verdicts against J&J and led to the removal of talc-based powders from the market. David played a key role in winning over $700 million in verdicts against Johnson & Johnson. He has also worked on major litigations involving drugs linked to breast cancer, atypical femur fractures, and pancreatic and thyroid cancer, achieving substantial settlements and making a profound impact.

He is a member of several prestigious legal organizations, including the Alabama State Bar, the Florida Bar Association, and the Florida Justice Association. He holds the title of Emeritus, Master of the Bench in the American Inns of Court, and in 2017, David was honored with membership in the International Society of Barristers, reflecting his commitment to the principles of trial by jury, the adversary system, and judicial independence.

David and his wife, Vicki Millo, met in law school and have been happily married for 32 years. Vicki is a law professor and part time practitioner. They have two children: Andrew and Avery. The Dearings are active members of Christ Church in Montgomery and are involved in various local ministries and charities. David has also coached varsity basketball at Ezekiel Academy. As a family, they enjoy traveling and spending time on the water. David is passionate about his faith, family, and friends. In his free time, he enjoys golf, saltwater fishing, and boating.

Education

David earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1991, where he was an associate editor of the Cumberland Law Review. Before that, he graduated from Furman University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics.

He spent four years as a criminal prosecutor in Florida before becoming a civil trial attorney.  David’s civil practice has always focused on catastrophic personal injury, product liability, and wrongful death cases.
