Andy Birchfield began his journey at Beasley Allen in 1996 and has been instrumental in developing the firm’s nationally recognized Mass Torts section, which consists of a highly skilled team of attorneys and support staff. Under his leadership, the section has achieved over $7.5 billion in verdicts and settlements for clients nationwide

He is widely recognized for his dedication to justice and excellence in the legal field. Over the years, he has earned numerous honors, including the Chad Stewart Award in 2017 for his commitment to faith, family, and helping those in need, and being named a Beasley Allen Litigator of the Decade in 2010 for his consistent success on behalf of clients. Since 2009, he has been selected annually for Mid-South Super Lawyers and listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for Mass Torts since 2007, earning six “Lawyer of the Year” awards since 2015. His accolades also include recognition on the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America and Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers lists, “Lawyer of the Year” in Montgomery for Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions in 2020 and 2022, and induction into the prestigious Lawdragon Hall of Fame in 2026.

A true champion for justice, Andy Birchfield’s faith and fierce advocacy are at the forefront of everything he does. As a leading force in the litigation against Johnson & Johnson, Andy has been instrumental in securing over $2.9 billion in verdicts related to the link between talcum powder and ovarian cancer. His relentless pursuit of justice has made him a powerful advocate for countless women affected by the company’s products. Beyond the Johnson & Johnson cases, Andy has played a vital role in major pharmaceutical litigations, including Vioxx, Bextra/Celebrex, and Baycol. His experience and dedication have led to significant victories, including serving as co-lead counsel in several high-profile trials. One of his notable cases includes a remarkable $51 million verdict against Merck.

Andy is a member of the American Association for Justice and the Montgomery Trial Lawyers Association. He has served as president of the Montgomery County Young Lawyers and the Alabama Young Lawyers and numerous task forces and committees of the Alabama State Bar. He has served on the Committee for Character and Fitness, which assesses those attributes for applicants for admission to the Bar. He’s also a proud member of the American Bar Association, Public Justice Foundation, and Samford University’s Board of Trustees.

A native of Pell City, Alabama, Andy and Tanya are the proud parents of five children—Dow, Will, Beth, Hope, and Lena. Beyond the courtroom, Andy is deeply committed to his faith and community. He leads a weekly devotional at the firm, teaches Bible study at First Baptist Church of Montgomery, and chairs the Church Leadership Council. In 2010, he and his wife, Tanya, founded Children’s Hope, a ministry that supports an orphanage, schools, and a medical clinic in Haiti.

Education

After graduating cum laude from Samford University in 1988, Andy went on to graduate magna cum laude from Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in 1992.

Andy’s legal career began at a small law firm in Montgomery, Alabama. During that time, he gained trial experience in state and federal courts, encompassing various legal matters including personal injury and civil rights cases.
