A pile of jeans

Beasley Allen employees participate in ‘Wear One Give One’ event to benefit local homeless shelter

Beasley Allen employees love sporting their denim on casual Fridays and they also have a passion for helping those in need. Combining the two joys seemed only natural to the firm’s Human Resources department. The idea sparked the “Wear One Give One” donation event, designed to collect blue jeans on behalf of Reality and Truth Ministries, a local homeless mission celebrating its 10th anniversary this month.

Although fall temps have just begun to arrive in the River Region, Reality and Truth Ministries knows that it won’t be long before even cooler temperatures drive homeless residents to its clothes closet in search of warm clothing, such as blue jeans. The firm supported allowing its employees to enjoy a casual, denim Monday in exchange for donating a pair of new or gently worn blue jeans to help stock the mission’s clothes closet.

Reality and Truth provides necessities to local homeless and low-income residents, including clothing and hygiene items, as well as services such as Bible Study, personal advocacy, and a money management program. It also serves hot meals from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each weekday.

Mission founder LaDonna Brendle was recognized by the Montgomery Advertiser as a Community Hero earlier this year. Brendle explained that God placed the local homeless population on her heart and, leaving her comfortable life with a good-paying job as an accountant behind, she answered the calling by creating Reality and Truth Ministries. Because of the services it provides, some of the mission’s former clients are now some of its biggest supporters and are working to help others. Reality and Truth Ministries clothes closet is located in space donated by Iglesia Di Dios Pentecostal M.I., and that is where the weekday meals are served. IT hopes to expand to its new, permanent location on Montgomery Street soon. In addition to serving more meals and maintaining the clothes closet, the new building will also provide lockers, bathrooms, showers, a laundromat, computers, and barber chairs.
