Freshouse II LLC, is recalling several brands of bagged Valencia oranges, lemons, limes, organic limes, and Red B Potatoes because they may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, as well as miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
Freshouse II issued the recall after routine internal testing identified Listeria Monocytogens on equipment used in one of the company’s four packing facilities. The company has ceased production and distribution of the product that was packed on the equipment and is taking actions to correct the issue. No illnesses linked to this recall have been reported.
Affected products sold to consumers at grocery stores and other retail markets include Freshhouse Limes, Natures Promise Organic Limes, Fresh from the Start Red B Potatoes, Fresh from the Start Lemons, Wegmans Lemons, and Wegmans Valencia Oranges.
Wholesale bulk items include 40-pound boxes of lemons, limes, and Valencia oranges, and 50-pound bags of Red Potatoes.
Listeria is a foodborne bacterial illness that can cause healthy individuals short-term illness, but is especially serious for pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
