Ward is second Beasley Allen attorney consecutively to serve as ALA President
MONTGOMERY, ALA. (June 8, 2011) – Beasley Allen Shareholder Navan Ward assumed the role of President of the Alabama Lawyers Association at the organization’s annual meeting held June 3-5 in Panama City, Fla. Ward takes the office following his professional colleague at Beasley Allen, Larry Golston, who served as ALA President June 2010-2011.
“I look forward to continuing and expanding some of the projects that Larry was able to initiate during his term in office,” Ward says. “I also intend to expand the ALA’s presence both in and out of the state. For example, we are planning a Lobby Day in Washington, DC, in order to address members of the U.S. Congress with concerns that we as minority attorneys have on the national level.”
Established in 1971 as the Alabama Black Lawyers Association, it is the mission of the ALA to enhance the integrity of the legal profession, to improve the quality of legal services provided to the public and to protect the civil rights of the citizens of the State of Alabama. In addition to the Lobby Day, activities planned for the 2011-2012 ALA calendar include a summer social for student interns, new lawyer training, a membership drive phone-a-thon, a Christmas toy drive for needy children, a community education day and a Spring fundraiser.
