Hemp and CBD oil companies InHe Manufacturing LLC and MHR Brands are recalling dozens of products for humans and pets due to excessive levels of lead, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a news release.
Lead exposure has been linked to pain, muscle weakness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, poor appetite, weight loss, symptoms associated with encephalitis, metallic taste in the mouth, shock, and kidney damage.
The companies said they became aware of the presence of lead in its products by the Florida Department of Health. Afterward, the company launched an investigation and determined that the issue was related to graduated droppers provided by a third-party packaging supplier.
Neither company has received any reports of adverse health effects related to the recall. However, anyone who has used the products and experienced symptoms of lead poisoning should seek medical attention. Likewise, anyone who has given the drops to their cat or dog and seen similar symptoms in their pet should talk with their veterinarian.
