Two Carnival Cruise ships collided Friday morning in the port of Cozumel, Mexico, damaging both ships and resulting in one injury.
The accident, caught on video by several witnesses, occurred when the stern of the Carnival Glory struck the bow of the Carnival Legend, causing it to shear through the Glory’s Platinum Restaurant dining room windows and crushing part of its metal frame along its aft. The Legend was already docked when the Glory struck it.

According to NBC News, a Carnival spokesperson said the crash happened when the Carnival Glory was attempting to dock, a maneuver that required driving the stern of the ship sideways to bring it alongside other ships.
The collision rendered portions of the Glory’s rear Lobby and Atlantic level decks a mangle of metal and broken glass. The Legend’s prow also appears to have sustained some damage. The company says that despite the damage, both vessels remain seaworthy.
Carnival tweeted that one cruise passenger suffered minor injuries when a group of passengers was evacuated from the dining room on the third and fourth decks.
The Glory departed from New Orleans on Dec. 15 and arrived in Cozumel on Friday after two days at sea and stops in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. The ship is scheduled to arrive back in New Orleans on Sunday, Dec. 22.
Carnival says the next sailings for both the Glory and the Legend will not be impacted by the accident. The Glory is scheduled to depart New Orleans on Dec. 23 and arrive in Cozumel on Christmas Eve.
The Tampa-based Legend also departed on Dec. 15 and arrived in Cozumel Friday after stops in the Cayman Islands and the island of Roatan in Honduras. The ship is due back in Tampa on Sunday and will depart for the Cayman Islands later in the day.
