A federal court in California has approved a settlement between 24 Hour Fitness and more than 850 claimants. The claimants in the suit were managers, sales counselors and trainers for the company who claimed they were misclassified as exempt employees and thus wrongfully denied overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. The value of the settlement is nearly $17.5 million. The claimants will receive about $20,000 each on average. U.S. District Judge Samuel Conti described the settlement as “fair, reasonable and adequate to all concerned.”
