Beasley Allen Shareholder Gibson Vance, host of The Beasley Allen Report, welcomes fellow Beasley Allen attorney Mike Andrews to discuss personal injury and product liability law. Mike talks with Gibson in depth about one particular case involving aviation litigation. The case they review involves the V-22 Osprey aircraft, a tilt-rotor aircraft developed by the military to do heavy lifting previously handled by helicopters, or too large for standard helicopters. This particular case involved the crash of an Osprey aircraft in which a Marine was killed. Mike explains the wide variety of factors that are investigated in aviation litigation, including aircraft design, operation, outside conditions like weather, pilot error, and other considerations. While working on this case, Mike uncovered problems with the aircraft’s hydraulic lines and aircraft operational software that eventually led to the crash. As a result of the case Beasley Allen handled, the military made revisions to the Osprey aircraft to make it safer.
