The Justice Department (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are investigating Johnson & Johnson over safety concerns about its talc-based products. The investigations were apparently sparked by numerous recent news showing that J&J has been concerned for decades about the risk of asbestos and other contaminants in its talcum powder products, yet worked to hide its concerns from consumers. Beasley Allen’s Leigh O’Dell, co-lead counsel for plaintiffs in multidistrict litigation against J&J, explained to WSFA News that the company “has perpetrated a fraud for decades” and hopes the company is soon held accountable for their actions.
