BP Oil Spill: Who is eligible for compensation?

| Toxic Exposure, Environmental Disasters

Beasley Allen attorney Rhon Jones says any business in Alabama, as well as Louisiana, Mississippi and the west coast of Florida may be eligible for compensation under the terms of the BP Oil Spill settlement agreement. Any private business in the affected area with a decrease in revenue in May through December 2010 that can show an increase in the same months in 2011 may be entitled to compensation. Rhon has been involved in BP oil spill litigation from the beginning, and is a member of the Plaintiffs Steering Committee for the consolidated litigation. People throughout the Gulf Coast region were affected when BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil platform exploded in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010. The Macondo well was damaged and oil spilled into the Gulf for months before the well could be capped. A settlement in principle was reached in March, and a court-supervised claim center opened in June.
