Toxic Coal Ash Coming to Alabama Landfill
(00:02:30)
In December 2008, more than a BILLION gallons of toxic coal ash sludge escaped from a retaining pond in Kingston, TN, devastating a community, destroying homes and property and contaminating nearby waterways.
The EPA has approved a plan to store the ash in a landfill in Perry County, Alabama. The TVA will begin immediately shipping the 3 million cubic yards of toxic coal ash; enough to fill 35,000 rail cars.
