Beasley Allen attorney Dee Miles discusses cases in which employers are accused of violating the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The act was created to protect workers, ensuring they receive compensation for the hours they work at their job. The cases currently being investigated allege companies designate employees as managers, moving them to salary versus hourly pay, but provide none of the benefits or duties of a management position, while working the employees more than 40 hours per week. As a result, employees are not adequately compensated for the time they are expected to perform at their job.
