June, 1996 – This case involved a defective door latch on a major auto manufacturer's SUV. Plaintiff was rendered a paraplegic as a result of this defective door latch. The latch allowed the door to open in a rollover, thereby allowing our client to be thrown out of the vehicle. If the latch had worked properly, he would have been kept in the vehicle and uninjured. The company knew of the danger in this door latch at the time it put it in the car, yet did nothing to fix it. The jury rendered this verdict in an effort to send a message to the company to give proper attention to safety and to put people over of profit.
