1991 – This case involved a bad faith failure to pay on an insurance claim concerning a cancer policy. The company's own claims manual described ways to deny the claim without having any legitimate reason to do so. The jury found in favor of the Plaintiff and awarded $6 Million Dollars to the Plaintiff, the majority of which was a punitive damage award.
