Cranes
What are the dangers associated with defective cranes or boom trucks?
The firm has represented numerous clients involved in defective crane cases. In several of the cases, cranes tipped over as a result of poorly designed stability outriggers. Many cranes and boom trucks have outriggers that extend beyond the perimeters of the vehicle in order to provide stability during crane or boom operations.
Although interlock devices have been available for outriggers since the early 1970s, many manufacturers still refuse to include the devices. Interlock systems would prevent crane operations when the outriggers do not have firm contact with the ground. In most cases, failure to have firm contact with the ground will result in vehicle instability and can result in vehicle overturns.
