MONTGOMERY, ALA. (May 14, 2012) – Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C., has filed a lawsuit on behalf of man who received blood infected with HIV during a coronary bypass surgery. As a result of receiving the HIV-positive blood, Howard Midkiff contracted HIV. As a result, he will have to take medication and treatment for the rest of his life. The lawsuit names LifeSouth Community Blood Centers as the defendant in this case.

The Plaintiffs' Steering Committee (PSC) spearheading the litigation surrounding the 2010 BP Gulf Oil Spill today announced that a settlement in principle has been reached with BP that will fully compensate hundreds of thousands of victims of the tragedy.
Navan Ward, Jr., President of the Alabama State Bar’s Young Lawyers Section, presented a check for $1,000 to representatives of the Alabama State Bar (ASB) Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP). The money was collected by the Alabama Young Lawyers Section (AL YLS) during its annual fundraising activities. The VLP was chosen in recognition of its work with victims of the devastating 2011 tornados that ripped through much of Northeast Alabama.

Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, located at Faulkner University, has selected the first recipient for its Monica Jordan Public Interest Law Scholarship. The scholarship is named for Monica Jordan, a Montgomery native, who demonstrated heroic persistence and resolve in the wake of losing her daughter to a domestic violence incident and her son in an automobile accident. The scholarship was established through a partnership between Jones School of Law and the law firm of Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C. The inaugural scholarship was presented to current first-year law student Sebrina Martin on Wednesday, November 30.
Beasley Allen Law Firm hosted its fifth annual Legal Strategies Conference & Expo at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center Thursday, Nov. 17, and Friday, Nov. 18. The event provides continuing legal education (CLE) credits and is open to all Alabama lawyers in private practice. The conference has grown steadily each year, from about 400 lawyers in 2007 to nearly 1,300 in attendance this year.
