Six students representing St. James High School made it into the Top 10 team playoff round of the 2008 YMCA High School Mock Trial Competition, held Nov. 8 and 9 at the Montgomery County Courthouse. The team was coached by Beasley Allen attorney Clay Barnett, along with Scott Green and Kevin Davidson, both Assistant District Attorneys in Montgomery.

Controversy surrounding Vytorin continues to escalate, this time as federal and state prosecutors investigate Merck and Schering-Plough's conduct in marketing the drug. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, many government officials suspect that the companies' marketing of Vytorin may have been misleading and improper.

Tom Methvin, Beasley Allen's managing shareholder, was recently named President of the Board of Directors for Brantwood Children's Home. Brantwood currently serves children ranging in age from 10-21, including transitional programs to help older youths move from dependent care to independent living situations. More than just a roof over their heads, Brantwood provides youngsters torn from their traditional family through often traumatic circumstances a place to belong.
The election of Sen. Obama brings about a new day in America and will do more to unify this country at a time when it is so badly needed. The President-elect will bring the best of America into his cabinet and in all key positions in his administration.
Judge Deborah Bell Paseur is, without question, the most qualified person in the race for a seat on the Alabama Supreme Court. She is also the best person for the job. In my opinion, Judge Paseur would be an outstanding justice on the high court. The judge from Lauderdale County, who has years of experience as a trial court judge, is well-respected by lawyers in all areas of practice. These include both Plaintiff and Defense lawyers. All persons who know Judge Paseur believe that she will be a great Supreme Court Justice.

Montgomery, Ala. - Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C., has been retained by the families of two of the seven victims killed in a fiery van crash on U.S. 82 Oct. 3. The incident involved an Alabama Department of Corrections vehicle that was struck by an 18-wheeler early that Friday morning. The ADOC van was carrying employees and job applicants from a state prison near Union Springs to another prison when the crash occurred about 5:50 a.m.
Both Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barak Obama and Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain say they support drug reimportation - or the importing of prescription drugs from other countries - however both say that the safety of those drugs should be paramount.
