The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Eastwind Industries, Inc., announces a voluntary recall of Kuuma IR Stow and Go Grills. The recall affects about 4,600 unites, which were manufactured in Thailand and are sold exclusively at West Marine stores. If the fuel container is not completely threaded on the regulator during installation, the propane tanks can leak fuel, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

Eastwind Industries has received three reports of fires from leaking propane tanks, resulting in reports of minor burns to the hands.

The affected grills were sold nationwide between January 2009 and August 2009 for $100-140. The product is called Kuuma IR Stow and Go barbecue grill. The rectangle grill is stainless steel with the word “Kuuma” embossed on the front. The grill’s main housing measures 18 and a half inches long, eight and a half inches tall and 10 inches deep. Model number 83726 is printed on the barcode label affixed to the packaging.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled barbecue grills immediately and contact Eastwind for a new operator’s manual with revised graphic installation instructions. Consumers also will receive a new tool to use for maintenance and cleaning of the fuel system.
