Cambell’s Soup is recalling 35,000 cases – about 15 million pounds – of its longtime favorite SpaghettiOs in the United States because the meatballs in the canned food product may be undercooked, which if consumed could cause gastrointestinal problems such as nausea and vomiting, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The affected varieties of SpaghettiOs were manufactured between December 2008 and June 2010, have a plant code of EST4K, and have a use-by date between June 2010 and December 2011 printed on the bottom of the can. Recalled products include SpaghettiOs with Meatballs, SpaghettiOs A to Z with Meatballs, and SpaghettiOs Fun Shapes with Meatballs (Cars). A spokesperson with Campbell says it is likely much of the possibly contaminated SpaghettiOs have already been consumed.
The voluntary recall was initiated after a routine inspection at the company’s Paris, Texas, plant revealed that the meatball cooker had malfunctioned and some of the products may not have been thoroughly processed. Campbell is uncertain when exactly the cooker broke down but suspect it was recently.
Consumers with questions about the SpaghettiOs recall can call Campbell’s hotline at (866) 495-3774.
