In a significant legal setback for Dupont, yesterday a US District Court judge ruled in favor of a class action lawsuit filed by neighbors of Dupont's Chambers Works facility in Deepwater NJ. Dupont has poisoned nearby drinking water wells and local public water supply systems with the toxic chemical commonly called PFOA (or C8), ammonium perfluorooctanoate.

U.S. District Judge Renee Bumb in Camden granted class certification to home owners and renters who want to prove that their property values were harmed by the leaking of perfluorooctanoic acid, a byproduct of the production of Teflon, from DuPont's Chambers Works in Salem County.

U.S. District Court Judge Renee Marie Bumb ruled October 9 that people residing on property near the Dupont Chambers Works facility in Deepwater, New Jersey, are eligible to pursue a class action lawsuit against the company. The suit alleges Dupont has contaminated  area drinking water wells and the local public water supply system with a toxic chemical called PFOA (or C8), ammonium pefluorooctanoate.

E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. settled one of the largest pollution liabilities in the state, resolving tens of millions of dollars in potential fines by promising to plant 3,000 trees, pay $500,000 and help preserve 1,875 acres of land.

More than 20 years ago, the DuPont Co. found similar birth defects in two of eight children born to women who worked at the company's Parkersburg chemical plant.
