The Montgomery County Bar Association (MCBA) will join the Alabama State Bar again this year in celebrating National Pro Bono Week. The event is set for October 23-29, 2011. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley signed a proclamation recognizing Pro Bono Week, saying “a huge unmet need for civil legal assistance remains for disadvantaged Alabamians.” National Pro Bono Week was established in 2009 by the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange was the featured speaker at the annual Bench & Bar Conference of the Montgomery County Bar Association. The event was held Friday, October 14, at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center at Capitol Hill in Prattville. Strange delivered the keynote address followed by a panel discussion on the topic “What Most Attorneys Don’t Know, But Need to Know.”

Beasley Allen Shareholder Navan Ward is currently serving as the 2011-2012 Minority Caucus Chair for the American Association for Justice. Established in 1992, the Minority Caucus is responsible for recommending and developing educational opportunities, networking programs and other activities of special interest to AAJ members of color. The Caucus helps to develop programs to stimulate minority membership and participation in leadership roles. It also works on joint programs with other AAJ Sections and special interest groups.

The new president of the Montgomery County Bar Asso­ciation wants to increase and to better publicize charitable work by the bar's members. "In my opinion, the reason people have so much angst to­ward attorneys is because whenever you need one, some­thing has gone wrong in your life," said Kendall Dunson, an attorney with the Beasley Allen law firm.

Beasley Allen Shareholder Navan Ward assumed the role of President of the Alabama Lawyers Association at the organization’s annual meeting held June 3-5 in Panama City, Fla. Ward takes the office following his professional colleague at Beasley Allen, Larry Golston, who served as ALA President June 2010-2011.

The Montgomery County Bar Association 2011 Spring Charity Event was a huge success! The membership, along with community leaders, enjoyed a fun-filled Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 5, with a Mexican fiesta featuring food, music and exciting prizes, all to benefit the One Place Family Justice Center. The event raised more than $35,000!

University of Alabama linebacker and Eufaula native, Courtney Upshaw, has joined forces with other Eufaula, Ala., residents to establish "The 41 Fund," to benefit victims of the recent tornado disaster that affected much of the state on Wednesday, April 27. The fund is named for Courtney's jersey number 41. Donations can be made to "The 41 Fund" at any branch of BankTrust.

Tragedy touched so many people's lives in Alabama on Wednesday, April 27, when a series of tornadoes ripped through the state. In their wake, the storms left devastation on an unprecedented scale. More than 200 people are confirmed dead in Alabama alone, and many thousands more lost their homes and all their possessions. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Beasley Allen go out to the families suffering at this time. Hoping to literally put into action the professional creed of the legal profession, lawyers in Alabama plan to help "render service," in this time of great need.

(April 29, 2011)  - Eleven Beasley Allen attorneys were selected for inclusion on the 2011 Super Lawyers list, a designation earned by fewer than five percent of lawyers in the state. Included on the list are the firm's founding shareholder, Jere L. Beasley, as well as shareholders J. Greg Allen, Thomas J. Methvin, J. Cole Ports, Daniel W. "Dee" Miles III, Andy D. Birchfield, Jr., Rhon E. Jones and Benjamin E. Baker, Jr. Three Beasley Allen attorneys also were included on the Super Lawyers "Rising Stars" list, which recognizes the top up-and-coming attorneys - those who are 40 years old or younger, or who have been practicing 10 years or less. Beasley Allen's Rising Stars are Chris D. Glover, William H. Robertson, V, and Navan Ward.
