A halifax lawyer is cycling 2,000 miles to raise money for a lethal cancer affecting many of his clients.
Paul Glanville, 40, a partner at John Pickering Solicitors, Clare Road, Halifax, is soon to set off on the bike ride from Paris to Marakesh, Morocco, to raise money for mesothelioma, a cancer caused by asbestos poisoning that can kill just a year after diagnosis.
He said: "A lot of my work in Halifax is to do with industrial cases where workers have been exposed to asbestos.
"It is quite prevalent here. Mills such as Acre Mill, Hebden Bridge, have had hundreds of cases.
"It can be a long time to take effect and there are still others arising now.
"I find it very upsetting at the lack of money and research into this and wanted to do something."
Paul, of Hebden Bridge, is leaving on September 9 and hopes to complete the route in six weeks, cycling 80 miles a day through four countries. He said: "I like cycling but this is a lot longer than my usual day trips.
"Only about 85 per cent of it is on roads and I think when we get to Morocco it gets very mountainous.
"I'm going in a group of about 30 people but I haven't met any of them yet. We will camp all the way.
"I'm sure it will be hard but I'm really excited about it and looking forward to the trip."
