Lawsuits involving defective hip replacement parts to be consolidated
It was announced this weekend that federal cases involving defective hip implant parts manufactured by DePuy Orthopaedics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, will be consolidated in federal court in the Northern District of Ohio under U.S. District Judge David A. Katz. The hip implant parts were recalled August 26 after research indicated patients who received the parts required a much higher than usual rate of revision surgeries.
Alabama AG issues consumer alert about oil spill claims process
The Mobile Press-Register is reporting that Alabama Attorney General Troy King has issued a "consumer alert" about the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, which is handling claims related to the BP oil spill disaster. According to the paper, the alert, issued this morning, says claims administrator Ken Feinberg has been misleading oil spill victims about the claims process.

Jones is one of 15 lawyers out of more than 100 who applied to oversee the consolidated litigation as part of the Plaintiffs Steering Committee (PSC). The BP litigation, which involves hundreds of cases against the oil giant and other defendants, was consolidated under U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier in New Orleans in August.

An article published Oct. 1 by the Super Lawyers Blog lists Beasley Allen attorney Rhon Jones among the top candidates for selection to the BP oil spill multidistrict litigation (MDL). The article, titled "Talent abounds among applicants for BP litigation steering committee" notes that many of the lawyers who are applying for a spot on the MDL panel have been featured on Super Lawyers and Rising Stars lists. Jones has been included on the Super Lawyers list in 2009 and 2010.
Man injured while trying to save drowning child files suit against BP
Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C. has filed a lawsuit against BP and other defendants on behalf of Daniel Hudley. The suit alleges that in July, Hudley, 43, was exposed to dangerous levels of crude oil and toxic dispersants when he entered the Gulf of Mexico at Orange Beach, Ala., and swam out attempting to rescue a drowning child. Hudley, 43, was treated at the hospital for about two hours after the incident, but since that time has been extremely ill, suffering from severe headaches and intense abdominal pain, among other symptoms.
