MONTGOMERY, ALA. (December 15, 2009)  - Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C., announced Dec. 15 that Managing Shareholder Thomas J. Methvin has been selected as the firm's "Top Attorney" of the Year. The annual recognition is presented to the attorney who demonstrates exceptional professional skill throughout the course of the year and best represents the firm's ideal of "helping those who need it most."In addition to selecting the overall "Top Attorney," Beasley Allen recognized excellence in each of its sections, naming the Lawyer of the Year in each.

Our firm has recently settled three significant FLSA cases on a class wide (collective action) basis, providing employees of those companies with back wages that they were wrongfully denied as a result of labor abuses. While each company's labor violations differed slightly, each involved a common theme we continue to see in these labor abuse cases. That common theme is where employers intentionally misclassify employees as managers and independent contractors in order to escape paying overtime pay.

Our firm recently settled a class action lawsuit involving refunds of unearned premiums for persons who purchased credit insurance using a single premium but who paid off the insured loan early.
