Trial Court awards $38.2 million to the State of Mississippi in Beasley Allen Medicaid fraud lawsuit

MONTGOMERY, ALA. (September 2, 2011) – Today Judge Thomas L. Zebert found in favor of the State of Mississippi in its case against pharmaceutical company Sandoz, Inc. in the Chancery Court of Rankin County, Mississippi, and awarded a total verdict of $38,191, 427.00. The case, Mississippi Medicaid Pharmaceutical Average Wholesale Price Litigation (Master Docket No. 65586-65632, 66312, 66313, 66314) involves allegations that Sandoz caused to be published inflated “Average Wholesale Prices” (AWPs) for the drugs manufactured by Sandoz, which resulted in the Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) reimbursing pharmacies at an inflated price, all allegedly in violation of the Mississippi Consumer Protection Act; the Mississippi Medicaid Fraud Control act and common law fraud. Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood authorized the filing of these lawsuits against the pharmaceutical companies and Beasley Allen attorneys W. Daniel “Dee” Miles, III and Clay Barnett, along with former Mississippi Governor Ronnie Musgrove from Copeland, Cook, Taylor and Bush tried the three-week trial in April.

Beasley Allen attorney to coach high school Mock Trial team at national event

MONTGOMERY, ALA. (January 21, 2010)  - A team made up of seven Junior and Senior level students from Saint James High School in Montgomery, Ala., has been selected to represent the State of Alabama at the National Mock Trial competition May 5-9 in Philadelphia. The students came out on top of 66 teams from throughout the state that competed during the annual YMCA Youth in Government Youth Judicial event, held Nov. 16-18, 2009. Beasley Allen attorney Clay Barnett is the team's head coach.

Beasley Allen attorney Barnett urges area attorneys to support United Way

For the second year, Beasley Allen attorney Clay Barnett is serving as Chairman for the River Region United Way's Attorney Campaign. The United Way conducts an annual campaign to raise money to support its 48 agency partners that serve all the people of the River Region. Services range from pre-birth to Hospice of Montgomery. The annual campaign asks individuals to contribute either through their business or individually. The Attorney Campaign is one important piece of the puzzle, helping the United Way reach its goal, which ensures that people in our community can obtain the services they need. Last year, area lawyers pledged $140,000 to the River Region United Way.

Beasley Allen's Clay Barnett coaches top team in YMCA Mock Trial competition

Six students representing St. James High School made it into the Top 10 team playoff round of the 2008 YMCA High School Mock Trial Competition, held Nov. 8 and 9 at the Montgomery County Courthouse. The team was coached by Beasley Allen attorney Clay Barnett, along with Scott Green and Kevin Davidson, both Assistant District Attorneys in Montgomery.
