Six students representing St. James High School made it into the Top 10 team playoff round of the 2008 YMCA High School Mock Trial Competition, held Nov. 8 and 9 at the Montgomery County Courthouse. The team was coached by Beasley Allen attorney Clay Barnett, along with Scott Green and Kevin Davidson, both Assistant District Attorneys in Montgomery.
Starting today, Alabama lawyers will answer a toll-free hotline to assist homeowners faced with foreclosure, according to the Alabama State Bar and Legal Services Alabama, two organizations that partnered to provide the service.

There have been so many people that have been victims of predatory lending practices and we just want to make sure their rights are enforced before someone tries taking their house."

A civil complaint has been filed this week on behalf of a Prattville woman who was critically injured last weekend in a boating mishap on Lake Martin, and her husband, who witnessed the accident but was not injured.
Montgomery attorney Jere Beasley filed the complaint, asking that monetary damages be assessed against 22-year-old Patrick Cumbie of Montgomery. Cumbie is accused of powering an open motorboat into a crowd of swimmers, which included Sue Tatum and her husband, Kenny, then ramming into the pontoon boat aboard which several other members of the Tatum family and several friends were enjoying the lake.
Students were rewarded for their creative writing skills at Brantwood Childrens Home this summer. The main goal of the contest was for the children to learn about themselves and to get them geared up for the up and coming school year.

Children First Foundation, Inc. (CFF) hosted The Jere Beasley Evening for Children at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa in Montgomery on last week. The event was designed to help the Foundation raise the funds necessary to advocate for the state's children on the legislative level. CFF felt that by celebrating the philanthropic work done by Mr. Bealsey, one who has given much to the less fortunate of the state, especially its children, could raise needed funds and educate the audience about the importance of action on the legislative level for children and their families, said a Foundation spokesperson.
