KCD thumbnail MCBA raises more than $35,000 for One Place Family Justice CenterMONTGOMERY, ALA. (June 16, 2011) – The Montgomery County Bar Association 2011 Spring Charity Event, held May 5, was a huge success, raising $37,500 to benefit the One Place Family Justice Center. It is the goal of One Place Family Justice Center to make existing services more accessible, more efficient and more effective for victims of domestic violence, elder and child abuse, and their families. More than 200 MCBA members, community leaders and supporters enjoyed the fundraising event, held at Wynlakes Country Club with a “Cinco de Mayo” theme.

“One Place Family Justice Center, the recipient of the charity proceeds, is an important intervention tool in our community’s commitment to servicing victims of domestic violence, and elder and child abuse,” said Beasley Allen Shareholder Kendall Dunson, who is serving as President of MCBA this year. “With the help of our very generous sponsors, we are proud to assist One Place in providing a vital support network.”

One Place is the first Family Justice Center in the state of Alabama and is a “one-stop shop” serving domestic violence, sexual assault, child and exploited elderly victims. This co-located multi-disciplinary approach serves to reduce victim frustration caused by traveling to numerous sites in Montgomery to seek help. At One Place, instead of going building to building and across town to seek services, victims can go door to door and down a hall for the help they need.

More than 20 state and local agencies have partnered with One Place to provide services to victims both on-site and off-site. Several agencies will have staff located at One Place to provide law enforcement assistance, counseling, advocacy, sexual assault examinations, prosecution, civil legal help and referrals.

“The most generous gift of $35,000.00 from the Montgomery County Bar Association and its members such as Beasley Allen Law Firm will make it possible for the Family Justice Center to purchase a state of the art Information Sharing System,” said Steve Searcy, Executive Director of One Place Family Justice Center. “This will enhance the experience of victims by connecting the partners of One Place through a shared case management system and improve our ability to assist victims and their children.”
