MONTGOMERY, ALA. (April 24, 2009)  – The camera crews are long gone, but the impact of ABC-TV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on one Montgomery family – and the community – will last a lifetime. Following the theme “Heroes at Home,” the producers of the popular program announced Monica and Brady Jordan and their family as recipients of the home makeover on Feb. 16. The Jordans were selected in recognition of their dedicated community service. The program featuring the Jordan family aired Sunday night, April 26, at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT) on ABC.

During the show, producers highlighted the fact that Monica Jordan and her daughter, Folashada, had planned to attend law school together, before Folashada was tragically killed in a domestic violence incident. Following taping, among the many gifts presented to the Jordans, Monica Jordan was honored by Faulkner University Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, which established a permanent scholarship in her name.

The Monica Jordan Public Interest Law Scholarship will be awarded every year to a Jones law student who has demonstrated community service and plans to practice public interest law upon graduation. The first scholarship will be awarded in the fall semester of 2011 and the Law School hopes that Mrs. Jordan will be its first recipient.

“The most exciting thing about the establishment of this scholarship is that it is something that will have lasting impact on the community for years to come,” said Beasley Allen Managing Shareholder Tom Methvin. “Not only will Monica Jordan have an opportunity to use this scholarship, but it will continue to provide for law students in the future who will then use their knowledge to work for justice in the community.”
