The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with QVC of West Chester, Penn., issued a voluntary safety recall of enamel-coated 8-inch cast iron skillets sold through the QVC televised shopping program, at qvc.com and in QVC retail and employee stores. Small pieces of the enamel coating on the skillet can pop off when the skillet is heated, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

About 7,500 units are involved in the recall, sold between August 2009 and September 2010 for between $28 and $35. The recall involves the Technique brand enamel-coated 8-inch cast iron skillets with two pour spouts and a ribbed underside. The interior portion of the skillet is cream while the exterior was sold in three colors: sage, blue and red. The brand “Technique” is printed on the bottom of the pans.

There have been five reports of enamel popping off the skillet resulting in consumers receiving minor burns. Consumers should immediately stop using the skillets. Known purchasers were mailed instructions for obtaining a full refund. Consumers who purchased the skillets at a QVC store should return the skillets to any QVC store for a full refund.
