Managing Shareholder Tom Methvin selected as Beasley Allen’s Top Attorney of the Year; other firm shareholders recognized as outstanding lawyers in their practice area
MONTGOMERY, ALA. (December 15, 2009) – Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C., announced Dec. 15 that Managing Shareholder Thomas J. Methvin has been selected as the firm’s “Top Attorney” of the Year. The annual recognition is presented to the attorney who demonstrates exceptional professional skill throughout the course of the year and best represents the firm’s ideal of “helping those who need it most.”
In addition to selecting the overall “Top Attorney,” Beasley Allen recognized excellence in each of its sections, naming the Lawyer of the Year in each. Honorees for 2009 are Julia Anne Beasley, Personal Injury Section Lawyer of the Year; C. Lance Gould, Fraud Section Lawyer of the Year; Ted G. Meadows, Mass Torts Section Lawyer of the Year; Kendall C. Dunson, Product Liability Section Lawyer of the Year; and Rhon E. Jones, Toxic Torts Section Lawyer of the Year.
“Each of these attorneys contributes so much to our firm, and to their profession,” Methvin said of the Lawyers of the Year. “We are blessed to have such talented and dedicated individuals as part of our team here at Beasley Allen.”
As Managing Shareholder, Methvin is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the firm, and for its long-term planning. In addition to these responsibilities, Methvin has been serving as President of the Alabama State bar since July 2009, through July of next year. During his term as Bar president, Methvin has made it his mission to increase the focus on Access to Justice, encouraging lawyers to donate their time to help people in poverty in Alabama by participating in the Bar’s Volunteer Lawyer Program.
“Tom is the moving force behind all of the firm’s activities,” said Founding Shareholder Jere L. Beasley. “He is a Godly man who has his priorities in the proper order. We are most fortunate to have a man with his ability, dedication and character as the managing shareholder at Beasley Allen.”
Methvin was born in Eufaula, Alabama in 1963. After graduating from High School with honors, Tom graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Corporate Finance in the Business School. He then earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama in 1988 and began his legal career at Beasley Allen Law Firm that same year. Tom’s family has been involved in the practice of law for over 200 years. Tom always knew he wanted to be an attorney.
Tom also currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for Brantwood Children’s Home, a home for abused and neglected children; he also is on the Board for Let God Arise Ministries, a prison ministry, and serves on the Cystic Fibrosis Advisory Panel, which helps fight the terrible disease of CF. He is married to the former Amy Agee of Birmingham, and they have two teenage sons, Rucker and Slade.
