Beasley Allen Law Firm will sponsor a FREE event for parents and child caregivers in Montgomery on Saturday, Sept. 22, to ensure their child safety seats are properly installed in their vehicles. The event, Seat Check Saturday, is part of National Child Passenger Safety Week, an annual event presented by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange officially declared Sept. 16-22, 2012, as Child Passenger Safety Week in Montgomery and the Montgomery County Commission has passed a resolution declaring September 22 Seat Check Saturday in the County to coincide with the national events. Seat Check Saturday will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at The Shoppes at EastChase.
Every year, thousands of children are tragically injured or killed in automobile crashes. For children ages 3-6, and 8-14, it is the leading cause of death. It is impossible to overstate the toll this takes on families. All 50 states and the District of Columbia and our territories have laws requiring the use of safety seats, booster seats and seat belts for children traveling in motor vehicles. But these restraints cannot work if they are not installed properly. Sadly, three out of every four child restraints are not properly used.
LaBarron N. Boone, a partner at Beasley Allen, said, “We are committed to making this nation, this state and Montgomery, Alabama, safer by promoting Seat Check Saturday. Our goal is safety first, and safety is non-partisan. Spread the word and buckle up!”
Seat Check Saturday will be presented in conjunction with Safe Kids USA, which will provide safety technicians to install and check seats, and the Alabama Department of Public Health. The event is free, but space is limited, so please call to reserve a time to have your car seats inspected. Call Helen Taylor at 800-898-2034 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
