Beasley Allen was started on Hull Street in Montgomery, Ala., on Jan. 15, 1979, with one lawyer, Jere L. Beasley, one secretary, one legal assistant and no clients! Mr. Beasley says, “It was a pretty simple life in those days. God has truly blessed us over the years and in the process we have helped a lot of folks who badly needed help. We have also been responsible for bringing about change for the better in a number of areas of concern.”

Today Beasley Allen has more than 250 total staff, including more than 70 lawyers. “I have to believe that doing things the right way for the right reason works and that we will continue to operate in that manner for years to come,” Mr. Beasley says.

“Helping those who need it most” is the firm’s motto, and the heart of what we strive to do every day.

Here are some other thoughts on Beasley Allen through the years:

Greg Allen, Shareholder

“I started with the law firm in 1980. I was in my second year of law school. I had been working for the railroad while going to night law school. My employer notified me that I would have to move back to Atlanta to keep my job. A neighbor told me that Jere Beasley had just started a firm and was looking for a law clerk. I met Jere in his office in the Winter Building on Hull Street. I offered to work for free until the end of the year. I had no idea at the time that Jere was a great trial lawyer in the making and that my offer to work for free was such a great investment! I have truly been blessed to be a part of this firm and to learn from the best trial lawyer in the business. I still cannot believe how large and successful the firm is now. It really boils down to the fact that Jere is not only a great trial lawyer but he is also a great leader and mentor. He taught me to care about the people we represent. I am thankful we have the opportunity to represent those who really need our help. Most of our clients find themselves in a helpless situation with no one else to turn to other than our firm. That motivates me to work hard. I get up every day looking forward to going to work. Not many people can say that. I am thankful every day for the opportunity to be a part of this law firm.”

Mike Crow, Shareholder

“From the early days of eight lawyers on Hull Street to 70 lawyers on Commerce Street, we have grown for the betterment of the people we serve, the city of Montgomery, and the state of Alabama. It has been a tremendous ride and I am proud to have been a part of it.”

Tom Methvin, Managing Shareholder

“I remember when I started working here more than 25 years ago, in August 1988. We were a small plaintiff firm that handled cases only in Alabama. We handled consumer fraud cases and personal injury cases. In 1998, we made some changes and started taking cases outside of Alabama and all over the country. At that point, we really started growing. We were able to help a lot more people all throughout the country.

Our first entrance into the national scene was when we handled the Fen-Phen cases in Mississippi. We were able to get a lot of compensation for a lot of very hurt people in this case. It then grew from there. Jere continued to get very large verdicts and this continued to build the Beasley Allen name nationwide. We later started representing the State of Alabama and this helped to build the name even more inside Alabama.

While we have always helped those that need it most, we have now moved into not only helping consumers but also helping business people who have been wronged by other business people. Today, we are spending a lot of resources helping businesses that have been hurt by BP and the Gulf Oil spill. At one time, we had more than20 lawyers working on it. This is one of the biggest projects we have taken on.

Jere has always said that if you will take care of your clients everything else will take care of itself. He has been right. He also told me when he asked me to become a partner with him in January 1994 that I need to get my priorities right in order to have a successful life. Priority 1 is a relationship with God, Priority 2 is the relationship with your family, and Priority 3 is your work.”

Gibson Vance, Shareholder

“I have been blessed to be a part of Beasley Allen for almost 14 years. The firm has afforded me the opportunity to grow in a professional manner beyond my wildest dreams. Beasley Allen is one of the most respected firms in the nation. It is hard to imagine how far the firm has progressed in a relatively short period of time. I consider myself one of the most fortunate people in the world, to have the opportunity to be a member of the firm and to be associated with Jere Beasley and all the good folks that work here.”
