CYBEX strollers More strollers recalled due to fingertip amputation, laceration hazardAnother brand of stroller has been added to the list of strollers being recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission because of a risk of the child’s finger being amputated or lacerated. CYBEX Strollers, distributed by Regal Lager in Kennesaw, Ga., is recalling about 1,100 strollers distributed in the United States and in Canada because the strollers’ hinge mechanisms pose a fingertip amputation and laceration hazards to children when the consumers are unfolding/opening the strollers. To date, CYBEX has received one report of a child placing his finger in the stroller’s hinge mechanism, resulting in a finger fracture.

The CYBEX recall follows two similar stroller recalls. Last November, Maclaren USA recalled about a million strollers, and last week Graco recalled 1.5 million strollers. Both were due to the same risk of finger amputation and laceration.

The recall involves the Ruby, Onyx and Topaz models of umbrella strollers. The strollers have the name “CYBEX” printed on the side. They were sold at department and juvenile stores throughout the U.S. between August 2009 and November 2009 at a cost of between $140 and $260.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the CYBEX strollers included in the recall and contact Regal Lager to receive a free hinge cover retrofit kit.
