A Grandview man pleaded guilty in federal court today for his role in an alleged mortgage fraud scheme that ensnared a Kansas City councilwoman.

Ricky L. Hamilton, 53, pleaded guilty to single counts of conspiracy and wire fraud. He also agreed to cooperate in the prosecution of former Councilwoman Saundra McFadden-Weaver and contractor Emanuel M. Kind. Their trial opens next week.

McFadden-Weaver, who lost her reelection bid after her indictment in January, is accused of falsely pledging to live in a $400,000 Lee's Summit home to obtain money to renovate another home owned by her church.
