St.Paul- A news report says embattled Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Dianne Mandernach plans to resign in October.
Minnesota Public Radio News reports that Mandernach wrote in an e-mail that her resignation will be effective October second. Her last day will be September 20th. Mandernach wrote that she already informed Governor Pawlenty of her plans.
D-F-L lawmakers called for Mandernach's resignation in June after her department acknowledged it waited a year before releasing details on the cancer deaths of 35 miners on the Iron Range. The revelation led to an investigation of a possible connection between taconite and mesothelioma.
Mandernach apologized earlier this year about the delayed release of the cancer data.
