Earlier this month, a 5-year-old child brought a gun to school. Thankfully the gun wasn’t loaded, but it was reported he found the gun in a relative’s car.
• Can the relative be charged with anything since the child had access to the gun?
• What if a child does shoot someone with a gun they find in the home? Are the parents responsible in any way criminally or to the person who is injured or killed?
Prevention is the key in these situations. Keep all guns locked up away from any child or person who is not familiar with the proper handling of a firearm.
