Opioid Companies Sued by City of Tuskegee, Alabama

A lawsuit filed by Beasley Allen Law Firm on behalf of the City of Tuskegee, Alabama, faults opioid manufacturers and distributors for creating the opioid epidemic. It claims that companies like Purdue Pharma deceptively promoted and flooded the market with the highly addictive drugs. The city has suffered an economic strain on its resources as a result of responding to the opioid crisis. Costs include providing medical care, therapeutic care and treatments for patients suffering from opioid-related addiction or disease; providing counseling and rehabilitation services; treating infants born with opioid-related medical conditions; public safety and law enforcement expenses; and care for children whose parents suffer from opioid-related disability or incapacitation. It is one of a number of lawsuits the firm has filed on behalf of other Alabama municipalities and counties, as well as governmental entities in several other states including Tennessee and Georgia. The firm also is representing the State of Alabama in its opioid lawsuit against Purdue Pharmaceuticals.
