Employees and friends of Beasley Allen will help lead the charge against cystic fibrosis on May 18 by participating in “Great Strides: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis,” the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fund-raising event. Locally, the awareness and fundraising walk event will be held at the Montgomery Zoo. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease affecting about 30,000 people in the United States. Additionally, about 10 million more people – about 1 in every 31 Americans – are carriers of the disease. Diagnosis usually is made by age 2. Montgomery’s walk is set for Sunday, May 18, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Montgomery Zoo. Join a team, or become a team leader, and help us give children and adults with CF the quality of life and future they deserve.

Father Walter's Memorial Child Care Center held its annual Christmas Open House last Thursday. Santa was just one of many jolly well-wishers who dropped by the child care center for children with severe disabilities. Attorneys with Beasley-Allen presented two checks to Father Manuel Williams, CEO of Resurrection Catholic Missions, which operates Father Walter's. One check was for $3,500, the proceeds from the 18th Annual Father Walter's Memorial Golf Class sponsored by the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association. I Beasley-Allen staffers and attorneys also added a check for $2,000. Shown at the check presentation are Leslie Ellis, John Tomlinson, Father Williams and Navan Ward, Jr. Santa's top helper and elf was Father Walter's restorative nurse Sheri Williams, who made sure resident Nafraia Nichols had a joyful day. Santa visited all of the children at the child care center. Donations of toys, clothes and other items, as well as volunteer time are always greatly appreciated at Father Walter’s!

Capitol Hill is a nursing home in the Capitol Heights area. Each Christmas they put up an Angel Tree for the residents. Each Angel contains a residents Christmas wish list. There are usually not more than one or two small items on the list, like lotion and/or slippers. The firm together adopted 100 angels last year and I would like to adopt the same number or more this year. Adopting one or more angels from Capitol Hill will definitely touch the life of someone who may not receive anything else this holiday season. They created a past so we could have our future and this is one way you can show them they are not forgotten.
