Beasley Allen attorney Frank Woodson speaks to the LexisNexis Torts Law Center on the issue of federal preemption in drug and medical device cases. Since this interview, the Supreme Court ruled on the side of the plaintiff, against the drug manufacturer, in a huge victory against preemption. Preemption threatens the rights of consumers who have been harmed by faulty medical devices and faulty drugs to seek justice through the court system.
Thomas Methvin, President-elect of the Alabama State Bar, discusses the campaign to assist homeowners facing foreclosure. As chairman of the Mortgage Foreclosure Task Force for the State Bar, he talks about the two kinds of foreclosure proceedings âe”judicial and non-judicial. At no cost, legal aid attorneys will interview homeowners by phone and may write a letter on their behalf to the lender, or possibly help negotiate a work-out of the mortgage. The non-profit Legal Services Alabama has received a grant to employ attorneys to handle the calls.

The Annual Minority Pre-Law Conference is about teaching 11th and 12th graders what itâe(TM)s like to be a lawyer. The Montgomery conference will be held April 14th at the federal court house for the mock trial along with a keynote speaker. Following the trial they will go to Alabama State University. This mock trial will also be held in Birmingham on April 2nd at Birmingham Southern College. Attorney Navan Ward explains how the young adults will be able to speak with attorneys and know their legal rights, what is it like to be in law school, to take the bar, different areas of law you can get into, and more. The main targets are minority students, but all are welcomed.

These vehicles were produced between 1974-1987 and were extremely dangerous because the fuel tanks were located outside the frame rail of the trucks. In the event of a side-impact collision, these tanks would explode.
