About Russ Abney

Russ Abney was born in Warner Robins, Georgia in 1963. After attending high school in St. Charles, Mo. and Fountain Valley, Ca., his family returned to Georgia where he graduated from high school. In 1986, he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley (economics and political science). He returned to Georgia where he obtained his law degree, with honors, from the University of Georgia School of Law. Russ successfully took the Georgia bar while still in law school and was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1989.

Upon graduation from law school, he moved to Texas and began his legal career defending companies ranging from small family owned business to Fortune 500 companies in civil litigation. He co-authored two books on Texas insurance law and, as a result of his fascination with applying technology to increase his effectiveness as a litigator, he became a frequent speaker at legal seminars.

In 1998, Russ decided the he would prefer to represent those that had been injured by big companies and began his career as a trial lawyer. He initially represented clients injured by medical malpractice and in aviation accidents. Russ quickly realized that leveraging technology was even more vital in representing individuals against large corporations. This led him to work on cases representing large number of clients. Russ now works almost exclusively on mass actions and class actions. He represented hundreds of individuals in the Sulzer Hip Implant litigation and represents numerous clients in the fen-phen diet drug litigation and those affected by welding rod fumes as well as dangerous prescription drugs. Russ enjoys the intellectual challenge of cross-examining top medical and scientific experts and the satisfaction that comes with helping injured clients receive financial recoveries for their suffering.

Russ is licensed to practice in the states of Georgia and Texas and before all federal courts in Texas, the Central District of Georgia and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of both the Texas and American Trial Lawyers Association.
